first impressions

A website is one of the most powerful tools at your company’s disposal with the potential to reach nearly half of the world’s population.  That’s roughly 3.7 billion people, and you have access to every one of them.  How do you feel your company is perceived by users of the web?  Without a platform to directly interact with potential customers, you really only have one shot at making a good first impression and that shot is your company’s website.

The Blink of an Eye

A recent study shows that on average it takes no more than 50 milliseconds, the blink of an eye, for users to form an opinion about your website and in turn your company.  This is important when it comes to trying to get those users to convert into customers.  It has been proven that people have a tendency to do business with people and brands that they like so first impressions are imperative.  There are several things that you can do in order to make sure your website will create a positive first impression on its users, although, one of the most overlooked and arguably one of the most important is to have a website that accurately and effectively represents the industry that you are in.  For example, a law firm with a proven track record in corporate litigation would be doing themselves a disservice by having a website that was designed to be “fun” and “creative” when in reality the industry that they are in would be best represented with a more professional and polished design.  The opposite goes for a professional DJ, the type of website a company in the music and entertainment industry needs to provide the best results would ideally be a fun, “party” style design.

Website Design

Rule of Thumb

No matter if you are a new business without a web presence or you are an established company that has been around for years, this should be a rule of thumb when it comes to having your website designed.  It is important to make sure that you select a web design company with enough skill and experience to successfully translate your company’s mission to the world wide web.
