One of the first steps in a great SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategy is to verify your Google My Business listing. Claiming and verifying your listing will help your business to rank higher in general searches, and to show up Google’s other applications, such as Google Maps, Google Local Pack, and Local Finder. Making the most of your Google My Business listing will only help your business in any kind of online search.

Claim Your Google My Business Listing

If you have not already claimed your listing, go to www.google.com/business. Follow the steps to claim your listing and update the information for your business. Most business owners get this far. Do not stop there! There is so much more you can do to use your listing to your advantage. There are many features on Google My Business that you can use for helping your SEO.

When you claim your listing, answer all the questions you see, as you want the most correct information on your listing. Google My Business listings are set up to where anyone can suggest an edit to your listing, so if you have not entered information, someone else can. Even competitors could potentially edit your listing. For this reason, it is important to regularly log in to your Google My Business Dashboard to review any suggested changes.

Ask Customers for Reviews

Just like edits to your listing, anyone can answer the questions, so it is important to stay on top of the questions to be able to answer them correctly and fully yourself.
