You’ve bought into the idea of sending out a monthly E-Newsletter but now you’ve got no one to send it to. How do you start creating a list of quality E-Newsletter subscribers that have opted-in and are waiting to receive your message. Notice I used the word “quality” and didn’t mention anything about “quantity”. It is our belief here at Visibly Connected that providing valuable content to quality subscribers is much more beneficial then sending out content to large masses of people that haven’t heard of your brand.
So that goes back to the original question of how do I build a list of quality subscribers??
OPT-IN FORMS ON YOUR WEBSITE AND BLOGS
Probably the most obvious of answers, yet you wouldn’t believe how many have asked me this question that have not completed this task.
Many of those that have completed the task have placed their opt-in form on the home page of their site which only gets viewed when their on that specific page. We suggest adding the opt-in form in a sidebar or possibly the footer – this way the form is visible on every page. If you are using WordPress there are many plugins that will make this very easy when using systems like Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Aweber, and others.
Also make it easy for your viewers to complete the form by not asking for to much information. I would suggest to keep it to 3 fields or less as studies show you will get a better response rate when under 4 fields. Make sure that your form is mobile responsive as well.
PROMOTE VIA SOCIAL MEDIA
As a business you should have a social media presence with an audience that is already engaged with your brand. By interacting with you on your social media platforms they are showing they are already interested in your “story”. Encourage them to opt-in to your newsletter by posting periodically about the newsletter and what benefits they can receive by joining.
Some of the platforms – like Facebook – also offer third party apps that will allow you to add opt-in forms onto your page.
ENCOURAGE YOUR READERSHIP TO SHARE
Provide content in your E-Newsletter that speaks to your audience, then make sure your E-Newsletter makes it very easy to share your content via all the different social media platforms. One of the main reasons people use social media is to show off their personal brand. So when your readers feel invested in your content they are more likely to share it on their social media platforms and with others.

CREATE AN OFFER OR CONTEST
It’s hard for people to pass up anything for FREE, whether they need it or not. Create an offer for a free article or E-Book, free trial, or free service or product – to be entered you must opt-in to your E-Newsletter. To gain more bang for your buck also require that they share your offer on Twitter or Facebook – gaining you more exposure.
DMA also reports that 60% of users sign up for an email newsletter to receive offers.
Some other quick suggestions would be to add an opt-in form in your email signature, add an exit-intent pop up on your website, and/or host a webinar or seminar that requires opt-ins to attend.
There is no sure fire way to gain QUALITY subscribers quickly, however, once you get going you will see the huge benefit to taking the time to do it right.
