13 Tips for Creating a Video Ad

The creation of a video ad for your business can be a daunting task. If you have never made a video, you may have many questions and concerns. The truth is, videos get the highest post engagement across all social media platforms, and increase your search engine ranking for your website or online store.

Tip #1: You need a plan before you hit record. Get out your whiteboard or notepad and brainstorm the most common questions or needs your audience will have. What is your focus? Will the video be a general introduction or a promotion/special offer? What answers or information will you be providing with this short video ad? Create a script and follow it.

Tip #10: Check the lighting, wardrobe and location. No one has the patience to sit through a badly lit or poor quality video. Lighting and visibility are important, along with neutral clothing and backgrounds that won’t distract from your message. Record, watch and rewatch, making sure to catch any areas with low visibility or confusing background scenes.

Tip #11: Choose a good platform to host your video. YouTube, Vimeo, and Facebook videos are all shareable and easy to upload. With YouTube, you can even start your own channel, which will grow and improve your SEO.

Tip #12: Be mindful of your video cover photo. Instagram allows you to choose a thumbnail photo that will show in your feed. Make sure it is an eye-catching and appealing picture.

Tip #13: Include a call to action. Every video ad should end with a call to action to encourage consumer follow-through. Include your website, a sign-up email form, or an easy button leading to more information or a Call Now option.
